I am teaching my class on Tuesday about speech impairments, and one of the topics I wanted to discuss included stuttering. I was wondering if anyone knew of any activities people who don't stutter could do that would cause them to have this problem? I'd like them to be able to feel what it might be like to stutter, and I wasn't sure if anyone knew of any reading activities, or anything that would make this happen. Thanks so much if you can help :)
Amanda.

Amanda.Hi Amanda, and welcome!
There was a very similar thread created a little while back. If you would like to view it, click on this link: How can those who don't stutter better understand? (http://www.stutteringforum.com/forums/showthread.php?t=289)
I'm not sure if there is anything that can be done to induce instant stuttering that is on the same level as a real stutterer might go through. Stuttering occurs over a prolonged period of time. You don't just wake up one day, and you're a severe stutterer right then and there. It evolves over time. Maybe you could describe some of the feelings that stutterers have and how they are affected by stuttering on a day to day basis?
Just out of curiosity.....what other type of speech imparments will you be talking about and what type of class are you teaching? :)

hi amanda
my only advice to you is to refrain kids from attempting to stutter. there is very little confirmed knowledge on this topic and no one really knows how it starts.......i guess you need to play some video's that may be available on the topic instead of making them feel it for themselves.....
