Hello I'm Philip I'm 17. I'm new to these forums. Anyway I'd like to tell you about my situation and see if you can give any advice.

There's probably many causes of stuttering, but I'm pretty confident I know mine.

When I was a child my parents where never interested in what I have to say. It's always been about them whatever I said would be disregarded and back to them talking about their lives. Having no encouragement to speak and discouraged when I did is the reason I developed a stutter.

I don't stutter when I'm talking to my parents, probably because I really don't care. I don't stutter on the phone or speaking in class (anymore at least).

I stutter when I'm trying to say something more than a couple sentences or when time is a factor.

I applies for staples and they have a three interview process. On the second interview he talked about customer service and how important it is, and that this store is the best at customer service in the area. He said I was timid and basically said you have to change if you want the job. Although I'm really not a shy person, stuttering just holds me back from saying the things I want to say. Anyway after that interview I tried to talk as much as I can regardless of stuttering. On the third interview I acted very outgoing and talked as much as I could. I got the job.

Now I'm worried. They don't know that I stutter at most a little nervous. I have to be able to explain long things as say certain things at certain times. Which I really can't do easily.

Wow, this is much longer than I thought it would. I'm think I'm going to ask my parents for a speech therapist. I had one in 8th grade and it seemed to work.

when you have a job interveiw its always best to tell them you stutter because by law they can not ask you about a disability ,after you have the job you can always tell people like the manager ,they cant fire you because of it by law ,are you sure they dont know? we tend to think we hide it better then we do ,if you ask people they probally know you stutter trust me on this one ,your probally getting all this stress by trying to hide it and everyone knows anyway ,this is like your first job so take it and see what happens ,it you dont like it then move on ,dont stress over what you might not be able to do ,we hold ourselves back !

The fear is inevitable. All you have to do is learn to get over your anxieties. As soon as you do that, you are invincible. You've already shown yourself you can ace interviews, so what's the difference with what you're going to do now? Control your breathing, maintain a positive state of mind and things should work. Note that I say should, because everyone has had those moments where they knew that they were going to say something fluently, but failing as soon as they open their mouths. Remove the insecurity and live your life the best way you can.
