Do you find yourself smilling like an idiot sometimes in an attempt to make the ing situation easer somehow? I dont why, but sometimes I cant help myself.

I wasnt quite aware of it until yesterday in my english class. Teacher asked me something and I couldnt get the letter C out so I smilled and let out a small "haha". And tried again, same thing happened.

this, I aint faking smilles no more. I'd rather get the "WTF" look we PWS get sometimes instead of appearing like an insecure little that has to fake smilles.

I give too much of a shit to what other people might or might not think of me. But at the same time I dont wanna be a rude asshole.

Kinda confusing.

haha i do that to. :)
It gives off the impression that you are a dumb airhead who can't remember what they are saying. But at least, if successful, the person doesn't think of you as a stutterer.
Sad that i am perfectly content to reduce my intellegence just so i don't stutter.

I do that a lot when people say "have a nice day" and I try to smile and say "you too" or "thank you"....but I stop at the smile.....sometimes they look at me weird cause my face moves weird as I try to get the words out...then sometimes I'll just walk away. Akward!

i also get that alot too :D but it gets even worse...
too many times this happened with me... when someone introduces himself to me and he's waiting for me to say my name (honestly i dont have much troubles saying my own as other stutterers but in sometimes it just cant come out) so i just make a light smile while he's looking at my face and waiting for me to say my name, i just smile and say ''nice to meet u'' or even sometimes i say ''ok'' without even saying my name... rude! :)

People mess up my name all the time. I'll try to say "Emily"..but it comes out more like "eeeheehehhhehemily". Usually they'll just go "what?"...then I have to start all over again, drag! But once I got "oh Abby! nice to meet you." I didn't correct him, haha. I also get Emma a lot.

That awkward feeling, fake smiles, emotional reactions for me are worse than the stuttering itself. It leaves the impression with the person your speaking to that you are not personable, your interaverted, not confident, not to be taken seriously, ect. don't want to start another pagoclone argument, but that med seems to go after my awareness of stuttering and my emotional reactions to it.

Be emotionally honest. Laugh it off give a real smile. Don't worry what other people think, and being rude. You can be as rude as you want to people and they'll treat you the same, almost always, try it.
