I may have no trouble saying my last name but when I'm asked to spell it...I have extreme difficulty. I was told to treat the spelling out as if it were all one word word, but this is not helping. It's not just with my last name, I have difficulty spelling out loud just about anything. The same goes with reciting numbers (SS# phone# etc...). Is this common?

Thats really interesting because most of the time when I'm asked my last name I block and end up spelling it. I usually never have any trouble spelling anything or reciting telephone numbers

I have the opposite problem. I can spell it fine, but saying it is hard.

I sometimes spell out a word for the listener if I cannot manage to fluently say it and I know they are struggling to comprehend.

I believe I posted this in the wrong forum. Move to Stuttering Forum if you could, mod.

this is funny, i have no problem saying my last name but i always end up spelling out my first name. i get stuck on the "TH" sound when saying my name but my last name starts with "Th" too but it sounds more "To"

Hi..yes i have problems in spelling as well as saying..it all depends on the syllables.generally vowels are extremely hard to say..the thing to do is yes after saying each syllable or number..pause ..take your time..thats what i do..i may even stand for 5-10 seconds saying nothing..and when i feel i can i say it loud and clear..so yes the key is to learn to take your time
