anyone ever get COMPLIMENTS from stuttering?
This one girl a long time ago told me she said I was cute when I stuttered, and another one said it was kinda charming and built character for me. I wanted to laugh at them but I just took the compliment.

(...as the non-stuttering girlfriend of someone who does) I would agree, but amend... For me, it's not the actual stammering that is 'charming' or 'cute', but the character that's built around it. When I see someone living every day with such an obstacle and still continuing to forge ahead and to thrive, it's very attractive.

Haha...nice :)
Yeah, it's happened once or twice. It doesn't bother me when they say that.
Ya...that's like saying "Your fat A$$ is cute".... NOT!

My husband has never told me he thought it was cute (nor has anyone else)....because he knows how much it bothers me.

Actually I have had the same kind of experiences in the past also. But I have the looks to back it up also :)

I hear this a lot. Almost everyone who knows me personally will cut me off if I ever start to complain about stuttering by telling me it's charming, cute, or even y sometimes. This is what I hear when I'm stuttering moderately and another person thinks I'm feeling down about it. If I'm stuttering severely, no one ever calls me adorable, but they can probably tell to leave me alone about it at times like those. I can't tell how many of these compliments are sincere and how many are given to reassure me that the listener isn't judging my stutter harshly. Most of the time the latter is unnecessary, but it might make them feel better. I trust that my boyfriends sincerely think it's cute, but that's because they're blinded. :)

At our first fundraising gala, we honored Carly Simon, who shared in her acceptance speech that her childhood boyfriend told her that her stammering was charming. She said it had a huge impact on her confidence as a person.
I've had compliments aswell.. but i dont know why i always take those compliments as pity from the listener... and thats not his real oppinion about it... maybe am just over reacting... because actually if i were a non-PWS and listening to a stutterer... i wont find anything cute or y about it.... its just a different of tastes of both es..
I have had one male tell me that my stutter is attractive, and I have had a male tell me that he thinks stuttering in women in general is attractive.
I had never had anyone say that specifically about my stuttering, so it kind of blew me away, BUT also helped me put it in perspective, as I work towards my goal of accepting all of me,including the stuttering part.
I think that anything that is unique about us makes us stand out, and lots of people arre going to like that!

Haha. I've had things like that said to me before too. People will say anything I guess if they want some action.

haha well I havent actually experienced anyone telling me that my stuttering is cute but Im thankful that no one has made any negative comments about it.
What I am thankful about my stuttering is how it taught me to accept people's flaws and look at them by their positive characteristics.

That's interesting that you say that. Being a person who stutters does seem to make me be able to look past people's flaws as well. I have a good freind who has Asperger's Syndrome (a mild form of autism). He kind of has the opposite problem as I do. He has very long winded one sided conversations and has problems respecting people's personal space. When he is offensive he is way too offensive, when he is nuetral he goes on and on, and when he is passive he just seems awkward. When I see how other's look at him, it sometimes reminds me of the weird looks I get from people.
