I like the idea of posting observations regarding stuttering here, because you can get response if somebody else here experience anything similar. I thinks thats pretty interesting..
Anyhow, I've been reflecting a little bit why the blocking behaviour kicks in more with some people, less with others and not at all with some. For a long time I've been pretty sure of that it has to do with stress. Some people dosn't contribute to stress while talking to them, and some do. For different reasons.
I still think that way, but I've noticed another thing at work today. That is that the blocking behaviour becomes bigger with some people because I believe that I have to make my point fast or otherwise I will lose their attention. Subconsciously I feel that I have to say what I got to say fast because otherwise the person I'm speaking with will get bored which trigger the stress. When I talk to people I dont block with, I always feel safe and I take my time and dosn't rush through every point in the thing im gonna say and the result is a non blocking behaviour.
Maybe this is why I block more while talking to a very fast person than to a very slow one. Because I feel safe to take my time and just breath and tell the story with the slow one.
Can anyone else relate?
Does anyone else have people in their life that you block very little or not at all with? If yes have you ever compared your feelings while talking to that person and a typical person who you stutter with? I think this is pretty interesting..
Peace!
