Has stuttering (especialy severe stuttering)
made anyone here completely lose it and make them explode in anger???

I'm usually very tolerant of my own stuttering, and
I always hope it wll be reduced....

But I seriously can no longer live with it, and
the pain of the stuttering has been so bad
it has caused me to feel......there is a person
who actualy is responsible for this nightmarish stuttering from a device he promises could fix stuttering-- and in actuality it made it as worse
as one could imagine---

He did not reply to any of my emails, he did not offer a refund...

I really don't want to continue because
I dont want to make anyone offended-- the follwoing
statement may be a little offensive but it
describes the stuttering....

I could literarly kill the person who is
responsible for my nightmarish stuttering...
 :(

I pretend to get angry to break the irritaing silence.

th-th-th-th... bloody hell, tough day. The cat was in the hat... thank god for that.

Sometimes i have cried. *sobs*why is everyone so mean*sobs*

But never been fuming for long amounts of time. You should really be careful of stuttering fixes, you get your hopes up and think wow, this could work. You are amazed at the results while you are alone. You then go outside to try it and fail abysmally and then think you are a failure.

I don't know what to say, you should try to relax in between speaking. Like if you are walking home and you have just had a bad day. You should try to distance yourself from it. Whats happened has happened, tonight is a new start. This stops yourself being overwhelmed by a several terrible speaking days in a row.

The worst thing you can do is wish you didn't have a stammer, when you do this you pity yourself and pity doesn't make you any better. It actually has a negative effect as you feel worthless and irritated. If you can accept it, accept that you get stuck, hit a state where it doesn't bother you anymore then you are 50% there. I went on a course and we was marched outside to speak to random people. It was there to prove that 99% of people don't really care if you have a stammer or not.

You need to set realistic goals, not 100% fluency, think about how much fluency you ideally would want to get by. I can be pretty fluent and my dream is 90% when speaking to everyone, thats about two notches up from where i am, i am at about 65% after a really big slide recently.

Just draw a line on a bit of paper, number 1-10, and circle where you are. This is speech only, now circle what would be acceptable. Once you have done this you can realisticly work your way out of a hole.

If you for 10, you are just setting yourself up to fail. You might achieve 9 out of 10 and be disappointed because remnants of your stammer is still there.

Focus on exercises, if you can enroll yourself onto a speech course, not one of the intensive ones which promise to make you speak fluently in 10 days, get something easy going. One with group reading and presentations. You get taught devices in the group and then you put them to the test you will see a steady improvement as time goes on. I think you will find this better as opposed to an intensive course where you may become fluent for a month or so then after a knock in your cofidence see it all fall apart.

What's the name of the device you're talking about?

If you don't mind.

Well what I currently own is a device
called the Fluency Enhancer...and in case you
have not heard of Dr Martin Schwartz, he has this
narrow-minded theory about stuttering-he thinks
stuttering is caused by locked vocal chords-- and
it's the only cause he will believe in... be very
wary!!!! I stutter, and my vocal chords are never locked, my stuttering is caused by no DAF...

He sells the Fluency Enhancer for like $$1,500,
but be very warned-- it is DAF/FAF, but it is not
the best DAF/FAF, when you start speaking,
it does not pick up your voice immediately--

He says to make the enhancer work, you have to start your first word slowly and softly--but people
still stutter on the first word..like me, so
in other words the only way this thing will work
is if you stutter because your vocal chords lock--
unfortanelty I bought this out of desperation,
not knowing it only helps stutters with locked vocal chords-- and I plan on saving up to buy a
new device......

Another device called Fluency Master is way
better!!! It is sold by dr felixbrod..it supposed to amplify vocal tone.. I did try it back in 1999...
it did not work for me because I did not have the symptoms it required.......I think it provides
an auditory sidetone for one to concentrate on
to help them get words out...when I tried it
back in 199, i already had an auditory sidetone-
I just needed to hear it delayed- and that what a DAF aid does-- delays the audiotory sidetone....

Well those who do not have an
auditory sidetone like me, that sidetone
given off by the Fluency Master will able
stutters to concentrate on it and thus be able
to get fluenct...in other words---the Fluency Master
amplifies your own voice and sends it to your
ears so you can hear your own voice better...
It does not delay your voice like DAF does,
but it looks like a hearing aid with a small microphone
placed behind your mastoid bone behind your
ear...with a earpiece that goes into your ear...
that microphone picks up the sound of your voice
when you speak and amplifies it and sends it
through the earmold...but like I said...the reason
it did not work for me then is I could hear my voice
great, but I couldnt hear it delayed...which DAF would have helped me... but now after a very bad accident i had a few years ago, I am unable to hear
my own voice as I speak, so the Fluency Master
which picks up my own voice and amplifies
it would help me greatly...

The only problem is The Fluency Master is like $$3,900, I don't have that kind of money, it's
what I need but i cannot afford it..

MY point is the Fluency Enhancer from Schwartz
is great for certain stutters with locked vocal chords
only, and the fluency master from felixbrod helps
all kinds of stutterers....my best bet....I myself
would go with the Fluency Master because I have
all the symptoms it requires to work....

But different devices are for different people!!!

I still would like opinions from others
on the Fluency Master-- the info supplied above is what I got from the website of the fluency master--
it's super-- and Im so pissed for not having one right now....

I reccomend the fluency enhancer only for stutteres
with locked vocal chords!!

Beware Dr Schwartz's approach with locked vocal chords is very narrow--

I'm not badgering him, but I'm just saying not all stuttering is caused by vocal chords locking!!!

Don't get me wrong these devices are great. But you are going to adjust to daf/faf and you won't tell the difference between it and your own voice anymore. In my opinion we don't need a device for fluent speech anymore than anymore else. The most it will do is add confidence. If you stutter badly just say one word every 2 seconds. Its better than being blocked on a word for 10. Record yourself talking now and then record yourself talking insanely slow. Sure it sounds a bit weird but you will talk smoothly.

I'm not saying we "need" to talk slow because that just adds more oppurtunities times to stutter. I mean I see a large fluency increase talking fast/really really really slow.
I mean 3.5 words a second fast and 2 words every 4 seconds slow.
At any other speed for me its going to take quite a while.
