Hey I never come on this forum any more really but I was working at a wedding this evening..... Had a bit of a horrendous encounter:

A middle aged woman came up to me and asked me what flavour the cake was. I stuttered and she shouts 'What, are you drunk?! I just want to know what flavour it is - is that hard?'...... So, i try again, and i stutter again. She then points at me and starts shouting 'That waitress is DRUNK! That waitress is DRUNK!' and the whole entire room stops and stares..... (yes, a whole wedding's worth of people). She shouts 'This girl has been STEALING wine from the party and is now TOO DRUNK to do her job!!!' (Needless to say i was stonecold sober!) My boss then comes and hisses at me to go into the back and find someone to replace me.

Unfortunately i'm a terribly story teller and this really does not convey the absolute humiliation i felt! I immediately went bright red and tears came into my eyes..... Crrrrringe! I really get angry at myself that i get so upset by just one person's stupid comment. Isn't it ridiculous that you can spend your whole life trying to build confidence, and to tell yourself it doesnt matter, and then one person's reaction throws a great big grenade at the whole thing!

Urgh... anyway, I'm sure i'll find this funny in a couple of days..... but right now, well... i wish i'd decked the woman!!!!

Sounds like a very embarrassing experience. How did your boss react when he/she found out you were not actually drunk at all but were just stuttering?

You should have decked that woman. What did your boss say?
That woman was absolutely rude. She was the one that was drunk.

Keep your head up!

I've been in similar situations.Don't dwell on it. The best piece of advice that I ever got was "get past it and move on".

It must have been very hard for you. I just want to tell you that you will survive and try not to let it bother you. We all had similar stories and at the end survived them.
