I don't stutter whenever I sing, or talk along with somebody else. But when I talk alone or in front of a group by myself it comes back. Why is this?

When you sing, your mind is focused on a tune, it is focused on drawing the words from memory. You are focusing on timing and high and low notes. As a result you don't stammer.

When you talk along at at the same time as someone else your mind is focused on what the other person is saying and trying to keep up with it, also if you get stuck on a word you have to skip it to keep up with what the other person is saying.

When you talk you focus on the words only and suddenly you become much more aware of your surroundings and your stammer.
