Hi everyone.

The other day I was at one of my sister's house and my mother was there too. In the kitchen we were having a cup of tea and talking about general matters.

At some point I began to initiate a topic and I was immediately interrupted and outspoken mid-sentence by my sister. This was commonplace and nobody turned a blind eye, but for once I actually raised a point about it.

When I confronted her about it she didn't seem to understand and continued on. I stopped her and I then grilled my mother about it who simply smirked and couldn't answer. This had been going on since my childhood, yet it was never brought up.

To take the heat out of my questionning I joked that the reason I stuttered was because I could never get a word in between them. Suddenly, they both became defensive and told me to stop being so silly.

Regardless of my approach to this matter does anybody else have family, perhaps sisters, who always seem to butt in when you are in mid-speak? Could this be the reason why males are three times as likely to stutter than females???

It's only a thought.

I understand your frustration. I encounter this problem among my female colleagues too.

They have the tendency to butt in when i am in mid-sentence too. And even more irritating when they try to help me fill my words when i am speaking. :(

I think females who don't stutter reacts faster and speaks more quickly. At least that's how my female colleagues are.

I would like to tell them please not to interrupt, but they couldn't care less to even listen to me.

So did you ever had a chance to discuss with them about this issue?

Essentially, they either didn't seem to understand my frustration or chose to not understand it.

My guess there is that they value their conversations a great deal and do not want to acknowledge that they might be causing any external aggrivation.

In other words, women!

However, after all is said, I have no evidence that I stutter because of their habit of interrupting me and changing the subject.

It was merely a thought. :)
