Hi everyone. I am a 25 year old women who works in retail management. It is so comforting to realize that there are other people out there who are struggling like I do everyday. My friends and family are supportive about my stuttering but I know they do not understand like you guys.
I stuttered as a child and it just "went away" until about two years ago. This is the most frustrating thing I've ever dealt with. I struggle to order at resturants, talk on the phone, and in general just asking for what I really want.
I have found that exercising and getting lots of sleep make the stuttering less frequent. Alcohol makes it worse (especially the day after). It seems like I will have stuttering under control for a while and then all the sudden it will just get worse.
Anyway, I am happy to join you and hope I can be of some help.

P.S. Has anyone else experienced or heard of stuttering just coming back years after overcoming it as a child?

Welcome to the site Brownie. Really good to have you here because I think your story is very unique and offers a different prespective on having a stutter. If you don't mind me asking did anything unusually stressful happen around the time your stutter came back?

Welcome Brownie. I have heard about an stutter coming back, but personally haven't met one. Must be pretty frustrating, one day your stuttering returned and now it doesn't help centering all your attention to it. I stutter as long as I could remember, but didn't realize I did until an incident with an teacher. Good to have you, see you out there in the forum.

I have had a lot going on the past few years like finishing college, job promotion and moving in with my boyfriend. My father was diagnosed with an incurable disease. I noticed the stutter got worse after learning this. It has been overwhelming at times but not what I consider unusual stress.

Also, Standingtall, you're right, I've noticed when I worry about stuttering, it gets 100 times worse. Usually when I'm not thinking about it, I have little difficulty speaking.

Thanks for your input guys.

I hear you. I was 28 when i was diagnose with an incurable disease, type II diabetes. It really changes your views on life. My stutter took a back seat and it wasn't on my mind all the time anymore.

i managed to overcome stuttering myself (i still have my moments though), it all comes down to learning how to control and practicing techniques that you learned through therapy of other means, no matter what stuttering will always be a part of you
