View Full Version : American Institute for Stuttering?
Has anyone on this forum been treated at the AIS and, if so, was it worthwhile?

I was also wondering the same thing. I've heard that it is a 3 week intensive course that involves going out and talking to strangers, voluntary stuttering, and there is some degree of follow-up support. Does anyone know how it compares to other intensive courses like Mcguire, starfish, etc?

I have never taken the program but I have been told about it.
I think it is based to some degree on the Hollins program with respect to the speech techniques and they use a lot of ideas from something known as the Option Center in Mass.
And they have you advertise your stuttering.
I think their goal is not to have you especially fluent but more accepting of yourself and your problem, less judgemental of yourself, to try and stop hiding it and tell people about it and asserting yourself if you run into a person who bothers you and they think that this gives you the best chance at speech improvement.
I don't think they think that you can achieve fluency and they don't want you to go after it, that that is the problem actually.
