I wish there was. To me it is about not shying away from situations and experiencing the tough times and learning from them. It took me 15 years to get any level of confidence, and there is no magic button to press to make it happen.
I say be positive and don't avoid situations if possible and look to learn from everything you go through.

Thanks.
I think the only "trick" to being confident is to do what makes you uncomfortable. I guess it isnt really a trick! What I mean is keep eye contact and say exactly what you want to say, no matter how long it takes. Even if you arent feeling confident, FAKE IT! Over time, you WILL feel more confident. good luck, go get it!

Like many people on here, it can be hard to get a single word out in 'uncomfortable situations' (ordering at Macdonald's, approaching a stranger), and even in the most comfortable of situations, e.g. with old friends and my parents, I still stammar pretty severely. However, do you find that you (and your friends/family) tend to forget about and not notice your stammar in the comfortable situations? I find that if you try and forget about your stutter completely, the uncomfortable situations stop feeling awkward, and I (normally) only stammar as much in these as I would in the comfortable situations.
I'm not sure how much this helps instantly, because it took me a bit until I stopped avoiding and fearing certain situations. I'm 19, and I have no problem phoning customer services, ordering in pubs etc. People on here often talk about awkwardness speaking to girls, I think I generally just worry about sounding a wanker or not (asking boring questions, sounding too egotistic etc), and I think that's all they care about too.

I don't disagree, but... depends what your greatest fear is - sounding like a wanker, or stuttering. many people who don't even stammar fake confidence, and can be vary painful to watch(!)

YES!! You are right! Funny stuff!

I hear you. Yea, we will have a lot of disappointments doing this, but if you look at the situation very closely, you will realize that your emotions are dependant on the listeners reaction. If they react "good" we feel better, if they react "bad" ,we feel like an idiot.-- The more we do this, the less we will be affected by the listeners reaction. Confidence WILL follow. It is hard though, I completely agree. Try it a little more everyday and you may be surprised! good luck
