View Full Version : Seecheasy
Hi Every1
I saw a pathologist last week and he recommended Speecheasy device. I was doing some research on that device and came across lots of positive reviews and only one negativity that it does not work when its very crowded; party or club. It was also on ABC news.
I just want to know if any1 in this forum has used and can provide some feedback. This device costs around $4000-6000!
anyway to get it cheaper than that?
Thanks
no1 knows anything about this device? i need some feedback regarding the long term effect of this device....

If you need it to perform your job or get a job, the State Vocational rehab will usually pay for it or at least some of it. I think that the company that sells it has information on how to get financial assistance.

Howee: Yes i also found out that they are willing to work with the insurance company for the reimburt.
I am trying to find out if any1 has actually used this device in this forum and how effective it is..

Just out of interest. Where have you heard all these positive reviews of the speech easy? The only place I've heard them is on there web sight. Havn't been there for a while but they seem to market the product a bit suspect. They say things like you will no longer be afraid to order in restaurants, you will have the confidence to say what you want when you want ect. ect. ect. They have these before and after videos that are just amazing. The harsh reality is that very few stutterers use the device a year after their 4 or 5 grand is gone.

I've tried it and give it a big thumbs down.:rolleyes:If it were a couple hundred dollars, I would say it is worth it but for 4 or 5 grand? It certainly isn't that effective lol.

wow i have requested the free information package for this device and also searched on youtube; they have lots of people who use the device and would recommend it. I am not sure if they r just fakin n marking this product. This is insane...

alright i'll be the one to revive this thread... i am now the proud owner of a Speech Easy Device. I have had it for about a week now and, to be honest, havent had much of a chance to use it. I did however go in for a test use before we started the lease agreement and i can honestly say it helped me. Now be warned, This isnt some instant cure for a stutter. Look at it as a very helpful tool instead of just the breathing techs. I will admit it isnt cheap but if it helps... Its only money.
I have the comfort fit model and even though it has some parts on the outside of the ear it is barely visable. one of those things that will only be seen if you are looking for it. This device puts a slight echo on what you say and also changes the frequency of your voice. this is to help "trick" your brain into thinking somebody else it talking with you.
For all the good it also has some annoying features. the echo and frequency change isnt only your voice but every sound thats around you. If i have the volume up enough i found it will pick up the clicks from the buttons on my phone. when i first tried the speecheasy i found it hard to concentrate to what was being said by/to me since i was distracted by the strange voice in my ear( and no i am not going crazy) but after some use that gets easier to deal with
After some use i will try and remember to update what i think about it. sorry for the spelling, grammer errors. It's 1:30 am and i couldnt sleep. goodluck to all!

I heard it's totally not worth it because it wears off after awhile. The brain can only be tricked for so long. I tried a similar one called fluency enhancer, except it's big headphones. I paid $2500 and it was too much. I only use it for important phonecalls because if I use more than that it doesn't work.
There's one on the iphone for $10 called DAF assistant. Start off with that one. It is the same concept as the speech easy. I also recently heard about a new device called stutterFree which works differently than speech easy and is cheaper, around $2000, but I don't know if it's any good. But you might want to look into it.

I have owned a speech easy device. My state vocational program paid for it. I was able to convince them that it would help me to gain meaningful employment.
My thoughts on the device.. First of all it sits in my closet, and has been there for nearly a year, like a paperweight.
The device works EXCELLENT when reading aloud in a quiet environment. I am near 100 percent fluency. It works even better when you are sitting in the SLP office, testing it out.
Get it in the real world and it does not work. Background noise of any type causes you to lose the signal, and the voice echoing in your ear gets very annoying, then causes headaches.
My mind learned to tune out the speecheasy voice, and it DID NOT WORK in any social situations.
Forget using it in a bar, restaurant, or anywhere where other people are talking. Forget using it outside, because traffic will cause interference.
Also, get this. Mine actually made my speech much worse when talking on my CELL PHONE. However, when I talked on a landline phone, my speech was greatly improved. I think it has to do with the very slight delay in the cell phone versus landline. I tested it again with , and it worked fine.
I think your money would be better spent with a good psychiatrist, and some dopamine blocking medication. It would be much cheaper, and you may have better results.
Anybody want to buy a speecheasy?

I have one of the first devices made. It has worked great for me, I was a severe stutterer, actually more of a stammer. I purchased it from a slp who was a stutterer and used the device himself. Mine does work in a noisy environment although annoying. I don't allow my self to become accustomed to the signal. If it works today it will work tomorrow. I enjoy fluency, I enjoy going to driveups. It is worth trying, don't let the negativity on this forum deter you. It may work for you,

Not sure how many stutterers are on this forum but is there any stutterer on here other than Bill who has this device and used it over a year and sill uses it on a regular basis? Not sure were all being negative just realistic.
