I'm Graham, I'm a semi - retired Electrician and live in the South West corner of England UK.
I've been stuttering since the age of 5.
My biggest problem is with Shopkeepers, I've found that by filling my head with nonesense, instead of rehearsing want I want to say, I can usually ask for what I want OK.

Hi Graham,

I am new to this site as well. I find that if I rehe what I am going to say in my head that I am worse and I start thinking about what words I wont be able to say.

I can see this website is going to be good to hear other peoples views on their individual stutter.

Hi Graham and Nick, I'm Eugene or Gene for short. I use to do the same thing, go over things in my head and the only thing I use is the greetings. Now, I don't worry about what I am going to say and I only worry about getting the job done or get my questions answered. I still stutter but my mind is on the end product. See you guys out on the forum.

Hi Gene,

I have been reading your comments and I like your way of thinking.

Its important to think positive and not really care what people think who dont know you.

Keep up the positive comments and I look forward to having many a conversation with you on this forum.

Thanks Nick for the compliments. In time I will get to know you too. I have a friend who told me something about my personality. She tells me that I see the big picture, but at the same time see many trails getting there. I had a chance to get therapy, but choose to do it on my own because I got this far without. My stutter problem is on the back burner and it seems like it is getting pushed back further because right now my concerns are my girls, and my health. Well, that is how I see things now.

I'm sure if we could lose the ' fear of stuttering ', we wouldn't stutter.
Isn't it horrible when the people who notice you starting to stutter, get embarrased for you - it seems to make it twice as bad

I know about the fear of stuttering and how some times, somebody feels embarrassed for you. The fear is built up over time. Right now, my girls have no fear, they stutter openly and nobody so far made them aware of it. I stuttered since I could remember, and I was an very vocal child, until an teacher made an issue out of my stutter and that was the first time I heard that word. Stutter. Maybe the fear I learned that day, delayed my development.
