I watched the program with great interest: the young girl made me feel a bit teary, the two young men seemed to speak better, the more pressure they were under
dam! I totally forgot about it :(
will it be repeated?
Anyone want to put it on rapidshare?

I watched it last night and got upset, but watching Nathan struggle.
Last night I felt lucky that my stutter is nowhere as near as bad as the three on the show. I feel the same way when I struggle with getting my words out in frustrated and angry.
It did prove to me that you dont let your stutter control you and like the two blokes on the show who set their sights on what they wanted to do and they didnt let their stutter stop them.
I was amazed the difference in Nathan and Woody at the end of the programme and felt very proud of them both. I feel very sad for the girl and hope she gets some help very soon.

I too felt sorry for the young girl who I think was about 11 years old. It is unacceptable that she was still waiting for speech therapy on the NHS (I assume it was the NHS) 9 months after the initial request. I think she would benefit greatly from therapy, especially before and during secondary school.
I thought that the guy who wanted to be an actor was very brave. After seeing him struggle to say his lines in the various rehersals and when interviewed for the programme, I feared that he would not perform well in the live performance. I could not have been happier to see and hear him pull it off spectacularly without a single stutter! :) Good luck to him and all of those who took part in the programme.

I actually felt the most sympathy for nathan because he reminded me of me, kind of like being a loner, how i used to avoid going out just to avoid a situation where i'd have to talk.
It was so cool how well he did in his performance too.
By the way, im downloading the programme right now, if someone hasn't posted it by tomorrow, i'll see what i can do.

@lupes, i would love a copy of that program, can you tell me where you host it etc ;) my is leewalbyof@hotmail.com if this helps atall...
That program was great, really enjoyed it, as a stammera it really helped me to see others in their situatoin and understand how they deal with it.... Its also made me realise that i dont just want to get over it and forget it, but hopefully id liek to think that i would get over it and help others to do the same, even if its just to give them a bit of encouragement or reassurement that it wont always be as scary or bad as when you are younger...
lupes can you post it or pm me with a means of obtaining it.
Yeah me too lupes I live in NY and couldn't see it, thanks

:) I loved Nathans guts!! He pulled off that
play perfectly!! I will have to admit that
I did have to turn away for a few seconds
when we first see Nathan doing those facial
siezures--no doubt he felt pissed about it and highly
angry by it...the other black guy had some tense
long stutterings--I'm surprised he did not snap out
of anger as he was stuttering...as for the
young lady-- that waiting list is rediculace!!
She needed some solid positive therapy then and there-- and for her to be put on a waiting list
and not get the help she truly needed is plain
not right!! Those 3 people sure have courage
to even go on that show!!
Oh yeah-- right at the end-- a preview comes
up explaining "these kids are trapped in a world of
silence"-- that definately pulled me in to want to watch!!
I presume it is another episode of "help me to speak"..
but where is it????
I downloaded Part 1, Part 2 Part 3 , Part 4--
and all 4 parts have Part 1 on them...
I did not see that second show that was
previewed at the end of "help me to speak"--
Is that like a 2nd episode of "help me to speak"
that has not been on yet-- or did I do something
wrong downloading!!
I want to see the full show of the preview
we see at the end of "help me to speak"!!!
"these kids are trapped in a world of
silence"-- that is a perfect tagline and makes
me want to watch it!!

I was really moved by this program. Thanks for uploading it.
My thoughts:
Mudiaga: His stuttering was pretty severe, and he talks very fast. His name is very hard to pronounce and spell, especially for a stammerer: "Mudiaga Eghweree." I noticed that when he talks about his stuttering problem, he has a great improvement in fluency. I also notice the same effect for myself, when I talk about my stuttering problem to someone.
He is also able to keep eye contact with a person, even if he is stuttering. I have trouble with that.
He seemed like a bright kid, and his artwork is really good.
The 11-year old girl: I felt sorry for her the most. She's really adorable and innocent, good manners, and is so positive. I felt bad that she had been bullied in the past. But its really good how she doesn't let it get to her.
Nathan: He was pretty severe. It was obvious he was having blocks, and breaking through them. Compare that to Mudiaga who just repeats the word over and over again. It's interesting how stuttering can take different forms. I kind of knew that he would not stutter in his acting performance. Because when a stutterer acts, they "become" someone else, and they lose their stuttering identity, sort of. I think thats why actors like Bruce Willis can speak fluently while acting, but stumble a bit in interviews. I liked how Nathan volunteered to have a speaking role. That is really good.
To happy7117: The thing you downloaded was only episode 1. I think episode 2 airs tomorrow, and it isnt about stuttering. I heard it was about "selective mutism." Still interesting, however.

Indeed the Part 2 ep on selective mutism looks
equaly incredible!! It's not stuttering BUT it
may be a good follow-up!! Let's hope we get
the Selctive Mutism ep. available for download as well!! I thought both parts were dealth with stuttering!! I guess I was mistaken...!! They could
of had 3 more young people who stuttered from UK
to use for Part 2 to end the show!!! I'm not complaining--but it would have been good to have
a Part 2 to continue from where part 1 left off!!
In part 2- we could have focused on the young girls success at finding the best therapy for her--and getting off the darn wait list-her stuttering seemed
in need for positive thearpy, and continue the stories of Nathan, Mudiaga, and her!!
The young lady was so upbeat, and positive--
stuttered a solid amount- but I would love to have her love of life!! As for me- I would have become a good friend of her as I'm sure we all would!! And bullying a stutterer-- that's the cruelist thing I can
think of for a stutterer..she did not show any anger
for not recieving therapy- but I can bet inside
she was very angry and upset!!
I loved this Part 1- !! Let's hope Part 2 on
mutism is just as good!!
Too bad we can't order this 2 part show on DVD!!

Did anyone see the BBC program "Lost For Words" that was on BBC TV in the UK about 2 or 3 years ago? I thought the programme was excellent, particularly as there was one person on there who very much reminded me of myself. There was a girl on the programme who was so good at covering up her stammering (though I prefer to say she was coping with her stammering) that her family and even her best friend were completely unaware of the problem until she told them about it on the program.
I dont suppose anyone knows if this is available to download anywhere on the web?
Thanks,
Riverman.

Lupes, thanks very much for uploading the Channel 4 program. I have only recently got around to downloading the files and after downloading the first 3 files, I have found that the 4th file is no longer available!
Would you be able to re-upload the 4th file please?
I would be very grateful.
Sorry it has taken me so long to download.
Thanks,

Hi all,
I was curious about the breathing excercises which were mentioned in the documentary and apparently helped Mudiaga. Do any of you know where one could find out about those excercises?
Thanks in advance!
