Okay, this is slightly difficult to describe but I'll give it a go.
My stutter is mostly a block, it's quite rare I get the repetition of a letter/word type stutter. I've noticed often when I go to speak I know what message I want to get across, but I struggle to gather the words together to deliver it. Somehow my mind often thinks I know what to say, and it's not till I open my mouth that I realise I don't know how I'm going to say it. It's as if my improvisation of word skills are lacking. OR I'm trying to find an over technical manner of explaining something when I indeed don't have the necessary vocabulary at hand. In other words if I use more basic vocabulary perhaps I'd clear up my mental confusion and block less.
I believe this could have a direct link with my block. Perhaps I'm thinking of that many words to say, and how to say it, in what order and my mind just overloads and in return I block.
Basically I'm going to note how I speak when I 'draft' it in my head prior to speaking so I know how and what exactly what I'm going to say. As opposed to diving straight into a conversation when I'm not even sure on what I'm going to say yet. I suppose it goes back to the good old "think before you speak" advise which was probably the first words of advice I ever got funny enough.
I'm not expecting any real feedback, but if anyone relates to this please let me know your thoughts about it.
Cheers,
Geoff.
