Hey everyone! Not sure why, but just coming into this forum makes me feel quite odd. I don't know about you, but entering a 'stammering forum' makes me feel like i'm turning my stammering into a big thing. Likes its something to REALLY seek help about. But, I think i'm realising deep down that this is exactly what I need. As we all know, its not often you meet another stammerer is it? So will be nice to meet whoever's here... to share a few amusing yarns on what life's like from our perspective.

So... who wishes they could change their name to something easier to say? :)

Welcome to the forum and nice to have you aboard.

Luckily my name is easy to say so no need to change it unlike the poor bloke on help me to speak, geez what a mouthful.

When me and the boss (sorry wife) were choosing names for our son or daughter before he was born we had to pick a name I could say without any problems, she wanted a couple of names I did not have a hope in hell of saying so we picked Luke or Lucy. We also couldnt pick a name beginning with R as I cant pronounce my R's properly and what road did I buy a house in, the one with the most W's and R's in it. sometimes I dont make my life easy for myself.

Greetings upright!

My name is fairly easy to say to be honest - lee, but i still get stuck, for me, i dont think changing the name would help, if it was anything, id probably get stuck on it lol.... Saying my name is the one and probably only thing thats never got any easier....
Talking on the phone, ordering food, asking for directions, i can do with some confidence that if i do get stuck, its momentarty rather that the long fustrating pause taht comes with saying my name...

Anyone got any tips on saying your name... anything youve found that helps you?

anyhow, welcome mate, like you, im new here too and share the same feeling as you. It will be very interesting to share experiences and tips on stammering..

All the best all

lee

An quick hello. I understand your feelings, about bringing your stutter out in the open and wondering about the big deal. You are still pretty humble and don't want to burnden anyone. Well, that is how I felt many years ago.

I too have problems saying my name or introducing somebody else's. I may go 6 times and say my name without an problem and then bang. A block. Do you find, that if somoene else says your name you don't have a problem saying it next. Anyhow, welcome.

Hey Mr Tall,

Yeah, odd isn't it. As soon as someone KNOWS my name, I'm fine with saying it. Its just the initial pressure of knowing the question is coming. Its getting that thought in your head though...'Oh sh*t, they're going to ask me my name'. Sometimes, if i'm asked my name out of the blue, when I wasn't expecting it, I'll say it no problem, as i've not had time to get myself in a state about it. :-)
