It is worth the risk because it worked for me and has worked for many others. It doesn't work for everyone however. Some people become accustomed to that funny noise and the effect wears off, so they throw it in a drawer. I turned the volume up or down and the tone can be changed. Give it a try but remember it may not work for you. If it doesn't work then you are no worse off. It was a godsend for me. It was a big thrill to go thru the drive up at the Dairy Queen and order a large chocolate dip cone. That was impossible before.

I bought the speecheasy. It's been sitting in my drawer for a long time. It didn't seem to help me much. I still stuttered just as much and I found it hard to concentrate on what the other person was saying because of the noise created by the speecheasy. When i tried it out in the consultation tho, I didn't stutter once the entire time. I think it may have been due to the fact that I was talking to a speech therapist, not because of the speecheasy. I've been considering going back to the therapist to get it tuned, but from my experience, it's definitely not worth the money. I know what it's like wanting a solution to stuttering so badly, but really don't waste your money. Maybe i didn't give it much of a chance, which i admit i really didn't, but I don't think it's worth it.

I had a trial week of this device in london. I won't lie and say it didn't help, it did but just a bit though. you need to ask yourself if you want to get depended on it. in additoin to this, i've heard that it does loose its impact after a few months.

Okay fellow stutters. I have used it for over a year and here is my experience with it.
First of all, it cost a lot of money which I didn't have.
Second, I believe it can help if you don't mind the audio feedback and having a device on your ear. Which looks like your deaf now but I guess it's better than stuttering, right?
I've used it and you need to fine tune your device to what's best for you.
For example, when I first got it, I didn't have the volume high enough so it seems like it didn't work. Once I adjusted it high then the device was more effective. It does take some time to get use to and seems weird at 1st.
I do have to say that it help me out and made me fluent. Although when the device stop working. That's when I reverted to being myself again. The device takes battery and when it goes low you'll notice your not that fluent no more. And when it goes completely dead than you are YOU again.
I think that's why many people threw it in the drawer after some time.
I can say that I do recall being 100% fluent but like I said once it stop working than I'm a stutter again.
Plus I hated how my ear wax builded up when wearing it and it was a pain to clean it and maintain it. Worse part is that you can not go to loud place such as a bar or club. You will hear too much echo noises.
Final statement: I think this device is best for severe stutters.
Just my 2 cent.

The bottom line is that for most people it works great at the beginning but gradually loses its effectiveness until it is no longer useful at all. For me after a couple of months using it I would stutter as much with the device or without. My hypothesis is that it has to do with what your mind considers normal speech. For whatever reason our speech physiology is defective during what our brain perceives as normal speech. Stutterers don’t stutter when we talk to ourselves or sing because singing or talking to yourself deviates from what our brain processes as normal speech. Different neural pathways are probably operating during singing and talking to ourselves that are less sensitive to stuttering. The speech easy works in a similar way I think by tricking your brain into thinking it is deviating from normal speech. But once your brain realizes that talking with the speech easy is your normal speech you start to stutter. So I don’t think that its worth it.

No, no it isn't :p With a stutter people still approach you to talk (if they don't know you), but with deaf people I know this isn't the case.

the speech you use when you talk to yourself is the same speech and using the same speech pathways, etc that you use when talking with someone.
when you talk with someone you are TALKING WITH SOMEONE and if you are nervous or anxious doing that it will affect your speech!!
most stutterers have an almost aversion to admitting that there is something psychological, emotional, whatever that affects their speech when they talk to someone because, well, the reasons why are something they want to avoid.
right miko, i think you know!!!
