Hi,
I am Viswanathan from India, 27y old (male), working in a small IT firm. I belong to the covert stutter group; have been struggling throughout my career and still continues. Can anyone help me out/guide me to overcome my scanning ahead of feared words problem.
My problems as per my best understandings is:
* I speak better (almost like non stutterer) in normal situations mostly with my friends, family members, and close people or those who are soft in nature except having trouble (speech blockage) in words starting with vowels either at the time of starting or any time during the speech (covert stutter). So far i learnt to use alternate words for the fearful one and rush through it in continues manner, and re-structuring the sentence with other easy words etc. Sometime it works but most of the times it doesn’t specially when speaking with unknown person, interviews, with group of people etc.
* Since i am unable to control the tension of vocal cords in stressful situations (Interviews, Groups talks, whenever need to produce an important speech/words etc.) i become panic, unconscious, rapid heart-beat, sweating, shortness of breath, loosing eye contacts, emotional, and eventually end up with blockage of speech even with easier words. In such situations i tend to push the words by holding the breath while keeping the mouth positioned according to the sound.
* I cannot control my mind for scanning of upcoming fearful words (Only vowels) in most situations. But, there are few people/situations with whom i worry less about the fearful words and mostly the fluency of speech with them becomes much easier with less or no speech blockage. But, such scenario doesn’t last for a long time.
* I remember a few years ago my confidant level was very high and I was in full fluency of speech with all words and in most situations for considerably a long time. I was not even worried about the fearful words and not thinking on my speech situations. But, again it started gradually as I have had in my childhood with difference of fearful words and situations.
* I am facing difficulty to speak after having full meal especially after the breakfast & lunch. In such situations my breathing too becomes uneasy.
