Hey All
I'm thinking of taking a private pilots license course which I have been offered for free where I work..
I have a mild to moderate stammer depending on the situation, so I was wondering if anyone is a pilot or has had any experience with flying and the speech involved? I presume the only talking would be over the radio but I'm curious as to how much you would be speaking and what kind of words etc
Any help would be great thanks.

I don't really know but I am aware of another stutterer who posts on the net who cls he has stuttering friends who are pilots (both private and commercial) and from what he says they get on fine. I guess you could give it a go or at least start the training and see how you get on.

Hello Scott . my stutter is more on the severe side. I had a speech assessment by a couple of flight intructors who said I woudnt qualify for a license. I was not surprised but
i appreciated their honesty.
there is a regulation about speaking clearly here in US. What I did anyway was take enough dual instruction to be able to operate as a pilot competently.( cessna 150) I just coudnt fly solo. i was able to fly after that as long as there was an instructor handling the radio.a couple were nice enough not to charge me as long as they had time and flights were short duration. Have other instructors (more than one) give an opinion.
I'm going to find out if another person on board for me has to have a license to just work the radio.maybe I can train them. Good luck

I hope they can accept stutters, because being A Pilot is my dream.
I'll ask about that and see if they can accept me or not.
my stuttering is server.

I've been a a pilot and flight instructor for 30 years and I also stuttered from mild to moderate during much of this time.
I was able to get my pilots license and become a flight instructor despite my stutter but it did make it harder. I was able to hide my stutter most of the time and if I blocked in the plane or when talking on the radio it didn't last very long so it didn't really interfere.
However if my stutter would have been worse it could have interfered to the point with talking on the radio and of course communicating with a student.
You need to ask yourself if you can really talk quickly under pressure. There are times that you must do it as a pilot for safety reasons. It was one of the reasons I didn't keep going in my flying career to try to fly for the airlines. It would have been too stressful to deal with my stuttering with the pressure you face flying for the airlines.
If you are intersted in just becoming a private pilot as long as your stutter doesn't interfere talking on the radio then you should be ok.
About 10 years ago I took a fluency shaping programming which greatly improved my fluency. If I would have had it when I was younger I might have pursued flying for the airlines.

What program did you take?

The program I went through was in Norfolk, Virginia. It is taught by Ross Barrett. do a search on the term pfsp and I think it comes up on top of the results.
