First, let me quickly introduce myself by saying that I'm a 20 year old college student from Lisbon, Portugal. My mother stuttered from the age of 11 to 24. She never had any treatment or therapy whatsoever and she naturally overcame stuttering. I've never heard her stutter and she is 100% fluent as everyone else. She had all the symptoms like me and everyone of you and somehow it stopped naturally.
I decided to inform the stuttering research about this because she could hold they key for deactivating the stuttering genes by somehow stopping those genes from turning on the stuttering feelings.
There are only two ways of overcoming stuttering: control the symptoms/feelings with techniques or curing the cause and stop these feelings. My mother clearly cured herself because she doesn't have the stuttering symptoms anymore.
So I emailed them and told them everything because my mother is willing to do all kinds of exams to contribute and help me out. I was so excited and happy!!
They replied by saying that they only test on people that are currently stuttering: "Subjects must stutter now, so it sounds like Tiago (me) is the person who would be best qualified. "
Come on... why not give it a shot and try to analyze my mother's exams because she could be holding the cure!!!! That is the whole reason I emailed them! :(
If there is any way of informing an institution that is willing to take this chance, please step forward. Let's make this happen people. Even if it's a slim chance, let's take it!
