When I was a child I thought that adults, unlike other children, would not make fun of my stutter.

I was wrong. There are still lots of people that think it is funny to make fun of my stutter.

Again a few days ago, I went to McDonalds and ordered a sunday. This was quite painful, I constantly blocked on the "s" and had to repeat the order several times before the clerk understood, each time taking longer that the previous one.

After this, when I left the queue and picked napkins, I heard that the girl behind me made fun of me "imitating" my stutter while ordering. And they seemed to find that funny.

I hate these moments, and I do not understand why adults like to laught at me that way.

I sure know what you mean. Professional, mature adult will not laught at you or make fun behind your back, but immature, spoiled, shelteder, young adults who need an attitude adjustment if they want to be taken seriously. I tend to ignore those people now, they are not worth my time or effort. Just enjoy that sunday, speaking of which, I check I will get an Banana split on the way home. Strange, but I still get a little uncomfortable when Children laught at me, but enjoy answering them when they ask why I speak funny.

Nobody has ever made fun of my stuttering
because they know I will get physicaly abusive--

Once when my dad made me realy angry--
(it was not my speech!!)-- I got out one
of my textbooks from school and threw it al him,
gave him a bloody lip...

The only time I would ever get that abusive is
when someone makes fun of my stuttering-
which is why nobody ever has!!!!

A person who makes fun of me will severely
regret doing so...!!

I'm one who tries to be respectfull of people,
but once people disrespect me--they wish they
hadnt!! :)

Apparently, being a tough male helps not being teased by adults when one stutters.
I think that, besides that, one reason why people do not hesitate to tease me is that, when they hear me, they guess that reacting to their teasing will be so painful and hard for me that they are nearly sure to get along without any "retaliation" (and that's indeed what happens 90% of the time)

I think I know what your saying..people find
stutterers an easy target to tease, because
stutterers are not able to verbaly fight
back at a teaser--indeed that is cruel!!

We can always physicaly fight back to
a teaser!!

I beaten up a kid when he was making fun of me and afterwards, the girls picked him up from the ground. Gave me the look. I was told he didn't do anything to you and you can't take any teasing, stuff like that. I got into a few more afterwards, it was just other boys testing me and I passed. I guess among the guys I earned their respect. Funny, When I got my butt kicked, nobody picked me off the ground.

I have learned if you are among your peers, there is a lot of teasing going on. I remember in Junior high school, this kid was teased because he came out of a shower with a generous swelling of pride. They were saying how they are not going to take a shower with him again. So, now I have better control of my temper, and not get angry because someone is teasing. You can usually tell if it is in fun and I just go along with it. People laught because they are nervous or don't understand something about the unknown. You usually can tell when someone laughts at you to get you angry. I try my best to ignore those kind of people, they are not worth your time or energy.
