Hey mark,
Just some advice..I had all of the same thoughts when I got married.I was scared and nervous. But my stammer is strange, I never stammer when I'm in a crowd, just when it's one on one so it may sound strange but I felt like the crowd was my support. So I took a deep breathe and just went for it.Never stammered the whole day. Just remember that the mood at weddings are usually fun and light so don't take it so seriously. Just roll with it and have some fun man!!!!!

Mark,
I have been in this situation and was nervous as hell, but all I can say is that I looked around the room and saw family and friends and that helped me to relax, I stuttered in my speech about twice I think but it wasnt as bad as I had expected.
Enjoy the day and the honour of being asked to be best man and dont start thinking you will stutter as you probably will if you do that.
Have a great day.

My first words were when I got to the mike, I think I'm more nervous than the groom. The room broke out in laughter. I just said a few words and that I was happy for my brother and stuff. Laughter is the best, get the crowd in light hearted mood.
if you are the serious type, watch the movie "Wedding Crashers" Starring Vince Vaughen and Owen Wilson. Pretty funny movie.

oh boy! what would have been worse is being the groom and making that comment hehehehe
just relax and think that no one is there and your speaking to yourself.
i know it may seem weird but it will work
all the best MOS

I had to give a wedding speech a couple years ago. I was definitely nervous, but I had a good story ready and practiced it a couple times. I
I'd definitely suggest you run through whatever you're going to say a time or two beforehand to work out the kinks, it definitely helps. Not more than 2 or 3 times though, you don't want to psyche yourself out. ;)
Make it either funny or sweet, but most of all: keep it short. There is no such thing as a toast that is too short as long as it includes: 'Let's hear it for the new Mr. & Mrs. ...".
Everyone at the wedding is there to celebrate. Noone is going to care if you have stutter some during the speech except you.
Relax and have a good time!

Well it's all over!! It went quite well also, although I don't think I'd win any awards for the speech. However people laughed in the right place and I even got a round of aplause for one of the jokes, so I was chuffed with that.
I didn't stuter much at all really, faultered a couple of times, but nothing much at all really. I think the main thing was preperation and making sure I knew what I was saying and making sure there was nothing I was really going to struggle with. Once the first few bits were out the way I started to relax and take my time and then it all started to become easier.
Thanks for all of your advice anyway guys, it all was very helpful! ;)
