Hello...

Oh god this stuttering is annoying. It handicaps my life so incredibly much, and I'm 100% sure I'd be so much more socially active and get a lot better grades in school etc. if I didn't stutter. Heck I didn't even dare speaking to some french exchange students last week even though Im half french and speak french fine...

Okay anyways, I thought of something that I THINK might have something to do with my stuttering - food.
Here the other day I went to practice with a new band I'd never met in real life yet, so naturally I probably stuttered a bit more because of that aswell. But the thing is, that I hadn't eaten anything proper all day and therefore my energylevel and bloodsugar etc. etc. was pretty low - I stuttered a LOT more than I usually would in such a situation.

Naturally it came to me that it's gotta have something to do with it.
I'm sure we all can relate to the fact, that we stutter less when our energylevel is high, when we're in a good mood, are not tired due to food/water deprival - basically when we're filled with energy we stutter less.

So yeah - I'm gonna try to think about this in the next couple of days/weeks, test out how my stuttering acts together with the different amounts (and what kinds) of food/liquid I consume during the day.

If anybody else has thought about this as well or has tried out something like this, please do share!

Thank you :)

I agree but with me its caffeine and processed foods. I cannot have afternoon coffee or my internal anxiety is high and I stutter really bad.

I also think that when you are talking while you are drinking something, lets say soda, and when you just cover up your mouth a little bit while holding the cup then try to speak. I think somehow it makes you stutter less.

I agree.

maybe that works because you can just take a drink in the middle of a sentence? just my 2 cents...

I think it adds a degree of anonymity - hiding a part of yourself. Most will agree people stammer partly *because* they feel self-conscious (of stammering - so there's a vicious cycle there)

Whenever I drink a lot of coffee I seem to be more relaxed, I forget about stuttering and speak pretty fluently
