#1 Stuttering cure
(Or possibly what you had to do all this time...)

By: Richard

I heard close to one million people in the United States stutter. It’s something like that, I’m not really sure... but it affects a lot of people!

HOW THE CAN U HAVE FRIENDS WHEN YOU STUTTER OD OD OD?
Yesss a big problem :[

Get to know me.
My name is Richard, 16.
I’ve stuttered for most of my life, not sure when it started... but I remember stuttering in the fourth grade. Truth be told, I wouldn’t trade my stuttering experience for anything in the world. It let me become extremely smart for my age, and also mature. I also don’t have normal fears like speaking up in front of a class. My only fear is that I would embarrass myself stuttering, but hey... I stutter. If I didn’t stutter, I would not be scared at all!

The ultimate cure for stuttering involves steps and realizations.

Reasons why you stutter on a simple level (Means no neurological shit even though it has been proven it IS a neurological problem)

1] ANXIETY

2] BREATHING

3] DRY LIPS

4] LIP MOVEMENTS

How to deal with Anxiety:
Practice and learn how to say IT and be a man. You can only learn this through time I guess. This is the hardest I guess.

Breathing:
You need to take a deep breath in and talk, practice doing this as normal as possible. Don’t exhale without talking if you catch my drift. You catching it bro?

Dry Lips:
Walk around with cold water if this happens to you.. talking with dry lips in general sucks.

Lip movements:
Try to be a little aware of your lip movements.

Practice reading outloud with newspapers (Or anything interesting you got.. I like news)
And practice with family.

Reason some people stutter only when talking and not when reading, is because you don’t use a little bit of time to breath in a bit and you panic.. and panic leads to dry lips.. etc you get it.

DONE [:

I'm not "giving you shit" but I am going to say that this won't work for me. I don't stutter because I'm nervous, it happens constantly, in everyday speech, when I talk to my closest friends, when my guard is up or down. I've tried a million "techniques" and they've just never worked. The only factor that has anything to do with how frequently I stutter is whether it's a good day or a bad one... and I'm talking about speech-related, not emotionally. I can be happy as hell and have the worst speech day. My speech is determined simply by my speech, honestly nothing else. It's great that these techniques work for you, I'm seriously jealous because I haven't been able to find that yet.

My speech improved markedly when I felt confident enough within myself to stop trying not to stutter. In other words, trying not to stutter kept my stutter strong and healthy. Thinking about the process of producing speech, instead of the wish to communicate with another person, created the tension felt as fear.

Gaining the initial confidence mentioned above is the key. There are many avenues open to us to achieve this, as long as they have nothing to do with speech practice. I found a group of ordinary men willing to accept me as one of them. Many months later I realized that every one had his own problems, just as I did. Mine happened to be my stutter, I thought. How wrong I was, but that's another story. Being accepted as an equal by other men, while I felt nothing like a man, was a novel experience; and hugely confidence building.

That was my first step to fluency.
