is when people take advantage of the fact that I have to take my breath to interrupt me.
I HATE this. Especially when this takes place in the middle of a word.
I sometimes wonder: can they not understand that how upseting it is to run out of breath within a word and to know that one may not even be able to finish it in the next breath?
Are they stupid or just cruel?
Until one asks them, it is difficult to know. I am always tempted to do so.

I think that its a case of both, some people are stupid and dont understand how them interrupting makes you feel and some people are cruel and are so full of their importance that they dont care who they trample or upset to get what they want.
Luckily there are people in this world who are decent and understanding.
If it was me I would ask them if they are stupid or cruel and then see what they do, I can imagine the look on their faces.

Keep your chin up and dont let them get to it, you are better than they are.

Nick

Either that or I just tell the other person to shut up and let me finish . . . :D (Now, the previous line was my sense of humor kicking in. I don't want to offend anyone and have them leave the forum for it  )

I have actually told people to shut up and let me finish and the look of horror on their faces is quite stunning. People should try it because you feel a hell of a lot better for doing it.

Elliott, Do I detect a hint of sarcasm in your last comment....

Indeed you feel better for doing it... but that is when you actually manage to do it. I mean, when I try that, unless I am really really angry, I would stutter a lot saying it, and I may have to even reapeat it which makes me feel awful. I often prefer to take the person apart in a quieter moment and explain softly that I do not like that. It is equally difficult, but I have the feeling it is somehow easier, be it only because I can prepare my sentences in advance.

Well said Nick, my thoughts exactly. For those kind of people, I tend to go on with my talk and if they don't stop, I talk louder and more forcefully. Don't forget now, you are not being picked on because you stutter, those people will interrupt anybody.
