View Full Version : Update on pagoclone?
Would someone like to update me on pagoclone? I went to some site and said a lot of confusing medical information. I think it's in Phase III or something, but what I want to know is how are the results and when can stutterers actually use it. Thanks for responding

So far, phase II has been completed with positive results (significantly improved stuttering). For phase III, they need 1,000+ participants in the stud and are registering for it now. During that phase, you get to use the drug (or a placebo). If you want to register go to this website and in the middle it will say 'click here' to register (http://www.indevus.com/product/pagaclone.asp?page=pagaclone#) .

Do you know if Phase III will be the last phase? I hope so, since this one seems large in number (over 1000 people)

yeah - phase III is the final phase for drug approvals. However - they then have to file an application which takes time. There is a nice breakdown at this website but keep in mind that some of these "years" they list are expedited and Phase IV is just keeping an eye out while the patient is out in the market (i.e. it's already approved) http://www.allp.com/drug_dev.htm

It says Phase III takes 3 years. So my guess it will be out in over 3 1/2 years

I believe 70% of participants get the real drug and 30% get placebo so if you register for the study chances are you'll be taking the drug next year. Keep in mind if you register - you need to have stuttered before 8 years old, not done ANYTHING for your stuttering in the past 6 months, you drink little to no caffeine and your stuttering on the video they take to see if you qualify needs to be really bad (a minimum of so many times per minute).
Hey, wait, can sign up for this?
Guess I'll have to cut out my speech therapy and cut coffee but that is nothing compared to the potential of pagoclone. I still have school too, and I'm just wondering out of curiousity, did you sign up for this?

Hey, wait, I'm only 15, and I can sign up for this? Is their an age limit?

I don't know if there is an age limit. I didn't cut any of my habits - I just said I didn't drink coffee and stuff to qualify because they say that to make sure your stuttering is not due to caffeine (we all know caffeine doesn't cause stuttering but that's how they maintain integrity of their study). I signed up but I didn't stutter "enough" on the video.
oo you had to do a video? I think I'm going to sign up.

I'm gonna try to sign up again for phase III and be on my worst behavior :-)

Is there any update about phase III for Pagoclone? is it started? At the website of Indevus was written that phase III will start in the first half od 2007. Now is June:)

I believe that the patient participation of Phase III starts this month (June) and ends in 6 months. I suppose data will then be reviewed and reports submitted to the FDA for market approval (which takes about 2 1/2 years).

Here is a news story I found about Pagoclone. It looks promising. Nothing yet about Phase III trials but it's getting closer.

Really I doubt Pagoclone is anything new, just a GABA agonist like benzodiazepines. Don't get your hopes up.

Great video, great article. This Pagaclone seems to look hopefull! Good for Ken (the man on the video). If the Pagaclone helped him, I'm sure it can help some of us!

First time I ever saw that!! I'm glad the Pagaclone helped him out greatly. Let's hope it can work just as greatly for us too!! That is when it comes out on the market. It sucks that it will be a while before it comes out on the market!
