Hi, A few months before i had posted my first thread in this site, desperately looking for a book or information on stuttering. I was very frustrated after loosing a promotion, and a new job opportunity majorly due to my lack communication skills.
Now, after reading the UNDERSTANDING AND CONTROLLING STUTTERING (www.valsalva.org) book, which was my first step in seeking professional help at the age of 28, I am more aware of my own stuttering problem and very confident that i will overcome my so long difficulty. The in-depth details of valsalva mechanism, psychological & physical factors of speech block, and valsalva control etc. are very deeply explained in this book. Since there is no magical cure for stuttering, thorough understanding of one's own stuttering problem, and proper exercises (A few described in this book), will gradually improve fluency. I recommend people who stutter should understand and involve much deeper into their own stuttering problem (Considering the complexity of stuttering behaviour) than just reading few articles and expect immediate fluency.
- Thanks,
Sridher
