Tell em you stutter and to hang on a sec. They will let you much more time and you'll be more relaxed, not having to try and hide your stutter.
Once you have managed those, I don't think you'll need an insurance anymore ;)

That's actually one thing that I never do on phone calls. I open the conversation by coming over as quite friendly, and by keeping myself (and hence my throat/voice) as relaxed as possible.
I treat the person as being an individual, and not as the company. That person is there to help me to get the most out of the company that they work for, so I make sure that they do all they can to help me out. That may sound quite strange, but I feel it makes for a more personal and therefore more relaxed experience.
I begin by good morning/afternon as applicable, then say I'm after some help/advice, and I hope that they can help me. I always try and inject some humour, and that helps to keep me relaxed.
Or you could down a pitcher or two beforehand to get relaxed......
Let us know how it goes.
I do similar to Steve but also try and catch their name and I say good morning Fred or Freda, I wonder if you can help me,, I think it makes the person on the other line feel like a person and not a machine. This sounds really corny, but I ask about the weather and if they are having a bad day and make comments like Im having a bad day or I dont understand and any help would be great.
In short I talk to them like I am their friend and they will hopefully listen and help no matter if I stutter.
Sorry for going on and on and on and on.

What has helped me, is be friendly and polite and make sure you stutter so they understand when you tell them to hold on. I use to walk the floor, get the blood moving around and get pumped up. good luck and let us know how you do on those calls. Success stories are good to hear.

I think stutterers and non stutterers all feel like they want to slap the living daylights out of someone on the phone every now and then

LTS, let me know next time and I'll come over and ring their little pencil necks. I don't know they don't sound too professional at all, the first one sounds very professional and you got something done. Great job. I would chill out in your position too, your doing great, you are not letting your temper get the best of you. Good luck in trying again.
