This Thursday I have to attend a Breakfast meeting with the President of my company where we introduce ourselves, etc...
There will be about 6 of us.
I dreaded this day for months now. Every employee has to do it. They choose about 5 people at a time each month.
PS - It's been a while since I posted - I'm sorry for the PM's I never returned.

Don't worry too much, he is just another guy and he wants to know who he is working with. We hardly see our big guy, unlike the guy before, he would walk among the troops in the trenchs and he would know our names. I like bosses like that.
If he is paying, Steak and eggs.
Have a smile, firm handshake and enjoy your breakfast. Ask questions about his family and what he likes to do outside of work, etc.. If he just gives an speech, just eat your breakfast and enjoy it. Best of luck and do let us know how it goes.

Thanks for the support, I just hope I don't lock up too bad.
If I keep myself as calm as possible and don't panic, I'll do okay.
I'll let you guys know how it went.

People who don't know you are going to think there's something wrong with you when they hear you stutter. They may smile or laugh from embarrassment. That's the reality. Be strong and deal with it.

Well, I'm back. It wasn't too bad.
I had trouble ordering my food. I had to find something on the menu that I could actually say as everyone looked at me like I'm nuts.
I got throught it with a lot of strange looks from the other people, by I got through it.

That is good news. It was not what you expect either, right. How did that conversation go with that part.
People know I stutter where I work with and they usually let me order first. Most of the time I get what I want to eat.
If you had purple hair, they will still look at you funny. Good to hear you survived. hehehehehehe

Thanks Standingtall, the conversation was okay.
Everyone else talked on and on. I just stuttered out the bare minimum and she (the President) asked more questions.
She really didn't seem to mind but when I had trouble ordering food she gave me a look like - "Uh Oh, this guy works for my company?"

I think some stutterers are in denial about this. Stuttering makes a bad impression without a doubt.

That's usually true but not always. Some businesses will not hire a stutterer for a job with customer interaction.
Glad to hear that you survived the meeting.
As long as you're producing the goods, there should be no doubt about your work ability.
So, at least now you know what to expect the next time!

I bet that's why I'm not allowed to talk to customers or salesman when they walk in!!! And I'm stuck behind a cubicle...
Also, is that discrimination if a stutterer is not hired at a business because of customer interaction???

I don't think it would be recognized as discrimination. Race, gender, ual orientation, and religion are the catergories for discrimination.

Isn't not hiring someone because of a disability a form of discrimination??
I mean a person with Down Syndrome does not get hired for a job because he or she has just that, Down Syndrome..I would say that's discrimination.....

I agree, the bottom line is producing the goods and there should be no doubt about your position in the company. Hard work still earns respect.
