Hey folks, i have to give a speech at uni in around 2 and a half weeks and i am dreading it, i gave one in the same class a couple of weeks back but this one is meant to go longer and i have to stand up in front of the whole class, my stutter has gradually been getting worse to the point that i even block up when i am talking to my parents, anyway enough of me playing the violin, i know i am going to stutter anyway and at least block up a couple of times, what tips would you guys/gals give me to try and minimise the damage?

Be confident. When i have to present a presentation in front of a class I tend to think that noting could already be worser than what I’ve gone through.

I agree twice with what Elliott has said. Know you subject real well and be ready for any questions. If your classmates don't know you stutter yet they are going to find out now. In the long run, that will make it easier on you, because you won't worry so much. Know what I mean.

Be positive and think you arent going to stutter in your speech, dont think negative thoughts that you are going to stutter on certain words. A lot of people are nervous giving speeches even if they dont stutter. I agree with Elliott and standingtallwithknowledgeandlonghair and at the end of the day if you stutter,so what as if you give 100 % you cant do anymore.
People wont think any less of you if you stutter and will see a new side to you, someone who doesnt let their stutter control their lives.
Let us know how you got on and hope it goes well.

hey guys, the big day is tomorow and to be honest i am nervous as hell, i think i know my topic well but i am not concerned with the material as the teacher is an easy marker, scared of not being able to control my stutter - anyway i will post tomorow after uni to let you guys know how it went

I'll wish you good luck. I would say don't worry, but we all worry, just think confident.

I also agree with Elliot, I used to be an avid powerlifter (Now I lift just enough to stay in shape). When people would ask for advice in the gym, I would be able to teach them with minimal stuttering.

hey guys, thanks for the well wishes and i think the force was with me as well as i did alright:D , i kind of steam rolled through it, occasionally stopping for a couple of deep breaths to calm down the nerves, my main was to not block up, as i knew it would be all downhill from there, so when i felt a block coming up i kinda paused and took a breath, i actually went alot better than my last outing which was a disaster, its defenitely a step in the right direction, cheers for the support guys might sound like a cliche especially on the net but it was comforting to know other people that go through the same shit....by the way i wanna be in a movie too, i dont have the force but i have average looks:p
USAFNCO i am into weights as well no where near your standard, but i have been trying to bulk up for a while now, slow process, i know powerlifters tend to shy away from gaining weight due to compeitition but you must have lifted some heavy ass weights in your time? whats your best for the main 3 , i can bench 70 kg for 6, deadlift 125 and squat 70 kg:o , i have to get that squat up its pathetic but i only weigh around 62

Great to hear that you did alright. Thanks for sharing. I was into weights back in my youth, but it was mostly for strength. My other brother was really into weight for bulk big time and he even met Hulk Hogan in the gym he worked out at.
