;)  I have been having these facial and jaw spasms for the last few weeks or month or so..and I have no idea why...always happens when I try to talk...
It's humiliationg, weird, freaky, embarrasing, and unneccesary.. I get comments like "Why are you yawning??" or "Stop catching flies as you talk!!"
And I often get quizical looks like "What the heck is that??"
I like the "Stop catching flies" because it makes perfect sense, that's what it feels like, and it is so humiliating...or I hear "You tired?? I saw you yawn??"
And it's pretty weird saying, "No I'm not yawning, but it's part of my attempt to spit out my words!"
It is unpredictable and it happens as I struggle...
One of these days, I'm expecting to hear, "Stop doing that thing with your mouth, it's not natural!"
I feel so strange doing it, I don't know why this thng with the mouth even started happening....
So in other words, how can I stop this jaw and mouth spasms when I struggle to talk???
I'm sick of catching flies with my mouth!!! If I want to catch flies I will get a fly swatter..but not as I talk..
One of these days a fly WILL fly into my mouth, and I'll swallow it, so best to stop the mouth movements now before a fly finds a new resting place inside me!!!
It's perfectly rediculous!!

I'm back.. just to say that I think you seems to be a real funny guy happy, and not because you have jaw spasms, because you describe and reflect on things in a very funny way. If i visit NYC sometime.. do you promise me to let me take a cup of coffe with you?

Too bad I cannot be funny verbaly..well sometimes but not often. Because of the stutter ****, it's very unfun, or unfunny to not be understood!!
I'm not from NYC, but Camillus, NY which is no doubt out of state for all posters everywhere!! And I don't know if anyone has heard of Camillus, NY..a town where everyone knows everyone..has a Hooters at the mall near-bye, plenty to do--just an average town I grew up in...moved out at age 24, and am now 27--got my own pad....
All these posts from me come from the privacy of my own place!!
And sure if anyone from this forum wants to visit me in Camillus, NY- heck you can!!!!
And since everyone on here is out of state, visiting me would never happen...not unless you happened to live near me!
And yeah-- I try to put humor in my posts to make them more fun to read....I guess we stuttering people have freaky ways with words.....
For example:: My jaw and facial grimaces could make a good venus fly trap...
But in all seriousness as funny as it sounds, it's humiliating when it happens while I struggle!!!
And no, I'm not the only poster with funny posts. There are many on here like Standingtall, Power Of Three just to name a couple....
Just a few like me who frequent this forum to find the right answers to the stutter crap!

Perhaps you'lll turn into a fly, and then you'll be fluent - all everybody else will hear will be bzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz :D
Or I will be buzzing with short stops and spurts like a stuttering fly...
BZZZZ...zzz.z...zzzz.zzzz..B....zz.zz.zzz.zz.z.z.z .z.zzzzz

do you stutter very very much?
Most certainly of course!! I hate it very, very much-- I am so PO'd at it...I would be happy with a little reduction, but a great reduction would be great..

have you been stuttering less or worse earlier in life, or have it been the same always?

Earlier in life, it was managable and far less, and I was very outgoing and confident as a result...but ever since 2001, it has been a holy hell getting a little worse steadily over time..in other words, it used to be moderate to severely bad, but now it's very bad these days...

I kind of have the same problem. Whenever I stutter I make funny noises at the back of my throat to help get the words out and my head does twitching movements as well. A lot of people have come up and asked me, "Do you have Tourettes Syndrome?" and I don't because I have never gone through a stage in my life where I randomly swear but I twitch all the time and my jaw also does a silly movement where it would slightly jerk downwards. I hate it sometimes because I feel like a retard doing it, making funny noises and twistching.

I have blocks and when I get one, I just can't get the word out. I make all kinds of faces, tapping my leg, tried many distractions, but just can't get the word or words out. A fly can come in and out of my mouth when I have my blocks. My jaw does not twitch or anything, well not that I notice.
