Smile Re: The Congrats Thread

Well, today I had the option of pointing to a menu item that I KNEW I was going to have a hard time on, techniques or not. I have been having a lot of stuttering lately and can feel some fear creeping in. --I heard the little voices in my head, "Just point, Silly! No stuttering, no feeling uncomfortable, nothing bad". --- I MADE myself order the food and talk to the waitress. i stuttered and stuttered HARD!!! Dang!!-- yea, the waitress was visibly rattled, would not keep eye contact, and was kind of confirming my order through my husband.--I did what I needed to do for my self preservation and that meant going against EVERY emotion I was having in the moment.--

Congrats! I had a very similar experience a few weeks ago, so I had to log in and reply. I was pretty sure I would be able to say what I wanted to order (some sort of chicken), and I made sure it was what I wanted--not just what was easy to say at the time. I think I sometimes subliminally change my order just because it's easier to say ... lol. Yeah, anyway, I basically did the same thing as you. I had a guy waiter, and he was pretty cool about it. He didn't look too shaken, just confirmed what I had ordered and moved on.

It really wasn't a big deal, I realized, after I had done it. The food was great, and I got to eat what I wanted. XD
