Default Propranolol and its benefits

I've read a bunch of positive posts regarding taking propranolol for stuttering. Can someone give me their take on it and let me know if it actually works? I'd like to try it. I'm on buspar and clonapine right now, but I hear a lot of positive things about the Propranolol. Any info would be greatly appreciated.'

Thanks!

I tried propranolol and it did not help the stuttering. It is a safe and inexive drug so it may be worth a try if your doctor agrees. As you may know, the only drugs that have been proven to reduce stuttering are the dopamine antagonists such as Olanzapine. But these have strong side effects and are quite expensive.

Has the Buspar helped at all with the stuttering or related anxiety?

So you think it didn't help at all? Any side effects? I've just read so many people using it and seeing positive results. Where have you heard that the Olazapine medicine helps?

I think the buspar does help with anxiety. I've had periods of fluency, but not as consistent as I'd like.

Thanks.

I tried Propanolol 10mg a day, didn't feel any effect.
Then I switched to 60mg Inderal LA (Long-Acting), also didn't feel anything.
However, I've heard a lot of success from people using these medications with regards to stuttering. Someone cured his stuttering by combining the use of Inderal and Buspar. I know a couple people on this forum who have seen beneficial effects from propanolol.
It's a pretty safe drug with no side effects and not expensive at all, so you should try it.

No side effects at all. It is normally used as a blood pressure medication so it can lower blood pressure, but if your blood pressure is not abnormally low it should be fine. My blood pressure is high so it was a plus for me. I took twice the dose of Inderal LA as Vermillion at 120 mg and it had no effect on my stuttering. It may have decreased anxiety slightly, but it may have just been placebo.

Olanzapine has been used by Dr. Gerald Maguire at UC-Irvine to treat stuttering. He has had some success, but the side effects can be bad. Google Maguire and Olanzapine/Zyprexa to read more.

Does anyone know the side effects of the Olanzapine? Wasn't there some info on the effects on Zyprexa a few years ago?

Hello

#1. I have no idea what those drugs. They may work but only in some cases.
#2. Now alcohol on the otherhand takes your anxiety away and has no proven side effects.

No proven side effects with alcohol???

Here is a short list I pulled off the net....

"Side effects include dilation of blood vessels (which causes flushed skin) and increased gastric secretion in the stomach. At high doses, side effects include mood swings, unrestrained behavior, and inability to control motor functions as basic as walking.

Other effects include blackouts, sleep problems (including impaired REM sleep), and hangovers. Side effects increase in severity with chronic abuse. Heavy drinkers suffer a variety of alcohol-related problems, including damage to the brain, stomach, pancreas, heart, and liver."

I have taken buspar and propranolol and find them to have no help with stuttering. If anything the buspar helped more because it does make me less anxious, but that didnt correlate with less stuttering. I feel absolutely nothing from the propranolol.

Yonex- I would agree with alcohol as that does reduce my stuttering almost completely. But to say it has no side effects?? It damages your liver. It has a lot more harmful that drugs that are tested to be safe.

Olanzapine(Zyprexa) made me hungry, tired, and zombie-like. Currently on Abilify but I recommend Geodon or if you don't mind gaining a few dozen pounds Seroquel.
