Hey everyone, I had my first Doctors visit today he prescribed me Klonopin and Celexa. Its not exactly what I wanted but its my first time on any meds and I would like to know what you guys have experienced from them.
I've been reading alot of good posts on here about Anafranil and Xanax but my doctor didn't want to prescribe them to me until I meet with a speech pathologist first. He hardly knew anything about stuttering (as expected) but at least I can give Klonopin and Celexa a try first. |

i tried a klonopin last week. that is a wonder drug. i was having a anxiety meltdown and i took just one, in 30 minutes i was symptom free.
i think the generic form klonazepam. its a great drug. The only side effect i felt was after the panic attack i was very weak and slightly more dysfluent, but after i woke up i was extra fluent. that very day. and i only took 1 (well and a few beers). good for you. those pills are so hard to find here. kak! |

My doctor also doesn't know much about stuttering and actually said " Just talk slower" Inside I was like, are you kidding me ?
Anyway, I am also on klonopin (clonazepam) and it is a wonder drug. I have anxiety "attacks" (you know, nervous, sweaty hands, my heart beats like hell and I am scared of stuttering) especially when I am in social gatherings and it does help. I am taking it with prozac but generic and have been on it for a year. For those who know what anxiety really is it is like you have something in the stomach and you feel like you just robbed a bank and they got all your info and you have no way out. I haven't felt the results of prozac yet but clonazepam does the work of calming down although you get sleepy and if you dare to take the 2mg dose you feel tipsy or kinda high. My dose is 0.5 morning and afternoons and 1mg before i go to bed. Visit my blog Cheers |

mine is 5mg and for a 85 kg guy thats a small dose. And only when i feel a panic attack coming on. it does help with the stuttering abit but it reallly works wonder with the anxiety. i think i still stutter alot while on (far less than normal though) but i just dont care.
plus just having one in my pocket usually does the trick of getting me in a sort of comfort zone. |

Do you guys believe Klonopin is a good anti-anxiety reliever or have you had better success with Xanax or something else? |

Xanax is too hardcore. I've only tried it once but it ed up my speech even more. But it does sort of calm me down. I stutter even worse but i just couldn't give a damn about it.

Before work today I took .5 mg of clonazepam. It tooka bout an hour to kick in and defiantly helped my speech. But about 3 hours later I noticed it started to fade so I took another .5 mg and that seemed to last me until work was over. So far i'm really pleased with the results even though I initially went into the doc to get prescribed xanex and celexa. I also notices when i drink a couple of beers while taking clonazepam, I become even more relaxed and speech is much, much easier and fluent.

I'm going to ask my neurologist about these two medications (Clonazepam (Klonopin) and Citalopram (Celexa)) this week. I just phased out buspar and am in the process of phasing out propanolol. Neither worked, either by itself or in combination. I let you know what he said.

Taking 0.5 (clonozepam) morning, 0.5 afternoon and 1 at night. Then I am taking prozac but I am not feeling the effects yet and I have been on it 1 month.
At first I noticed my speech got better but lately I am stuttering again. Is my body getting used to it and maybe the effects of the pills are fading? or maybe it was a placebo effect. One thing for sure, I was diagnosed with mild anxiety "disorder" but I think I developed this because of my stuttering and it fired back cuz it made my stuttering worse. Say, umm... If I were in a social meeting I would be with sweaty hands, my heart will go crazy, and I would just be sure only to speak the "right" words. I am sure that if I didn't stutter I would not have this anxiety. At any rate, clonazepam helps a lot. PEACE |

09. I feel your pain. and i am going to answer your questions, however i am in no position whatsoever to recommend, encourage or advise you to take drugs for your speech. I am not a doctor, (even though i know a few), nor am i even in the least bit educated about the pharmacology of the drug, its effects on stammering or even the basic physiology of stammering. Sorry if this is beginning to sound like a discler, IT IS! Ok first of all. I didnt take the Clonazepam for my speech. That was just a byproduct. There was an incident I was involved in that freaked me out and I had a two panic attacks, repeatedly and in quick succession, My doctor thought it was wise to put me on Clonazepam to stop the panic attack. I thought I was dying. I am not on a regular dose. I just have them in my little pill fob and everytime I feel an anxiety attack coming on I pop one. This happens less than once a week. the trouble is that recently, Saturday I night, I had some wine in addition to my beers. I saw a few guns and I I started to panic. So I took a pill, 0.5 mg and at first I calmed down. Then I started tripping! I went to my room and couldn't sleep so I cleaned out my room, scrubbed my toilet, folded and arranged everything in its place. I'm not a pig so it was the fact this i was doing this at 3:00 am that kind of threw me off. Must've been the wine! The effects are kind of funny. I have a panic attack, (someone described it as having robbed a bank and dropped your wallet with your ID whilst u were at it and being at home waiting for the police to come pick you and the doors already being broken down.) and then I take it and it takes exactly 25 minutes to kick in, (not slowly, that shit is fast one minute your heart is racing the next you stoned). Then...I wonder whether I still stutter as bad but I I think its better because I just don't care anymore. Then normally I just become very mellow and happy. and tired. But thats probably because of the panic attack. Usually I take a power nap then when I wake up I feel extra refreshed and extra fluent, But even that doesn't really last. Especially if I try to talk too much. Its like it counts how many words I say. By the time I reach like 100 its starts to come back. It does help with the blocks but I think it mainly decreases how frustrated I get with myself and that makes me feel better about ploughing on. I don't know yet. I prefer not to medicate myself for my speech. So I probably wont refill my prescription once I am over this panic thing. What really scared me is that was like an Xtasy trip. Lights fading, sounds fading, I had a hallucination like I could see germs...BTW this has never happened to me before. Well anyway I hope this helps. What I can say is that its a good thing to consult with as many trained people as possible before taking the pharmalogical approach and make sure that any effects on your behaviour etc are being noted by you and monitored by a professional.
