Default Celexa vs Xanax and Technique

Hey guys,
I'm currently taking .5mg of celexa (clonazepam) twice a day. I upped my dossage from .25mg twice a day. I've noticed improvements in my speech and a a definite feeling of less anticipatory stress and anxiety before and while i'm speaking. Even if I do began to stutter, I can easily regroup and start the sentence or word over by simply saying it a little bit softer or slower then continuing on at my regular pace.
I believe the combination of the right kind of mediation and some form of technique that works for you is our best shot at dealing with stuttering. Not necessarily becoming completely fluent but enough so it doesn't bother us as much and we don't feel ashamed and avoid situations and opportunities in our life.
Anyway, my point was to hear what other members who have tried xanax and/or celexa have experienced. So please state what meds and if any technique you used or are still using and if it brought any fluency or even a better way of life for you.

Sad to say but I promise you you can never get rid of your stutter with medications, even if you do you will for ever be dependent the drugs

I never once said that medications would completely get rid of stuttering. I said the combination of meds and technique from therapy is our a best shot at dealing with and possibly reducing stuttering and the negative side effects we feel about our selfs due to stuttering.

Hi there Maxamillion,
I have to agree with you. My 10 year son is now on Day 18 or so of a trial treatment that I have set up with my doctor. He is on Zyprexa 2.5 mg (minimal dosage) and Inderal LA 80 mg (also very minimal dosage) I have to say that I have seen AMAZING results. There are definite side effects, that I am monitoring closely and may have to get off the zyprexa but even my 10 year old son has become a new man and has new self confidence that he never EVER had before. He even comments almost daily and says "Mom look at that I said all that and didn't even stutter" For me that is reason enough to see him smile. Good luck and keep us posted. Try not to pay attention to the negative feedback that you will get here and there on this site. I believe if it is monitered closely and you are smart about it and do your research why not give it a go. If it works for you then keep at it and if it doesn't then you make the choice of trying others or simply stop. I wish you luck.

there is nothing wrong with taking meds. i dont know why everybody always grills someone when they mention medication. Like if its going to better your life, improve your speech then why in the hell not take it. Like what is the point in life.... to live a happy life and if stuttering makes you unhappy then by all means do whatever possible to improve. katie, its good that you care so much about your son and you have done a lota research to help him live better.

Agreed, I have never understood this either. If someone is taking meds under the supervision of a responsible doctor, who the hell are we to judge? Drugs are certainly not a cure for stuttering but can help, especially with the depression and anxiety that often go with stuttering.

I am confused by the original post though. He refers to celexa (clonazepam), but celexa and clonazepam are completely different drugs.
