Default Xanax or Klonopin. Which is more effective?

I have not tried any med for stuttering, but I have been reading on this forum, that these two drugs, seemed to be quite popular with many of you guys.

Is Klonopin less addictive and less tireing than Xanax? I am thinking of going to my Doctor, as I think I might give it a shot.

Thanks.

" hey doc could i get some xanax to help with my stuttering" and the doctor is just gonna say oh yah sure here yah goo!!!!! i find that doctors are so reluctant to perscribe things.

I could say that I suffer from anxiety and mention my stutter, to my doctor. To be honest I have had speech therephy, I think we all did, lets be honest, most of them are not effective in the long run.

We are left to fend for ourselves, in a fluent speaking world. I don't like drugs but that could be a last resort, if it improves fluency. We are just merely surviving and not enjoying life. I don't know why they still haven't found an effective treatment after all these years and reserach!

klopin is the shit!!!
but its addictive too. IDK about Xanax...never tried it.
Klonopin just makes u mellow...and calm too. And if u r not used to it, it'll work in like 12 minutes. Fast acting shit.
look at me! i sound like a peddler...dont take my word for it though (lest i sound like a proponent of drugs)....just an FYI

Personally i have had experience with Xanax. It worked well. But I guess you should take xanax or klonopin only in specific situations.

Anyway I would suggest you to try both of them and see which one works best.
Bcoz everyone is different especially in the case of stuttering..

Hope you will find these meds to be useful..plz update us with your progress so taht it will help others in the forum

I think Klonopin and Xanax both work about the same. I've never tried Klonopin. Both those drugs act on the neurotransmitter dopamine. Supposedly, dopamine levels are higher in PWS. These drugs lower Dopamine levels. For me, Xanax greatly reduces my anxiety and slows my speech down. My blocks were greatly reduced. I now have no problem answering phone calls at work or voicing my opinion in meetings. It's the best therapy i've ever tried for stuttering, but like others said, we all have varying degrees of stuttering so it might work for some and not others. Good luck!

Makes sense, I used to be on ADD meds that raise dopamine levels, they screwed my stutter over lol.

Chrondog06,Since how many years were you using xanax..You mentioned that you can answer phone calls better.Does that mean you take xanax daily?Coz I heard that its not good to take these meds on a daily basis.

Terrific, I've been taking 1mg Alprazolam ER(Xanax XR) for 3 years now. I take 1mg in morning before work Mon-Fri. On Sat and Sundays i don't take anything. I might get a little edgy on those days but it's nothing too bad. I usually try to get a good workout on those days to clear the mind. Maybe skipping 2 days helps clean out my system somewhat and makes my Mon-Fri dose a little more effective. Anyways, it's working for me. Like i said, my blocks are greatly reduced and fluency has never been better. I consider myself a mild stutterer. My biggest problem was with speech blocks, not repetitions. Dealing with phone calls is now a breeze as my anxiety level is way down.

Chrondog, thanks for the information. It seems (from your previous posts) you have been managing your professional life very well.I really admire you because I am attending for interviews rite now and am really worried abt my professional life.Anyway through my web research I found that it is not advisable to take xanax more than few weeks and doing so will lead to addiction and whole lot of other side effects.HOw did you overcome this problem.Did you and your doctor had any special strategy to handle this or is it like you just did nt have any problems with xanax.

Terrific,
I haven't had any problems so far. Like i said earlier, I take Xanax XR Mon-Fri. Nothing on Sat and Sun. I do feel a little more anxiety on Sat and Sun but it's nothing out of the ordinary. I can definitely see how Xanax can be addictive for some, but it's not a problem for me.
