Default A great way to try DAF!!!

Fiddeling around today on the sound
recorder application on my computer,
I wanted to hear myself sound how I sound
stuttering..

So I clicked on the little Red Circle to record,
I said something into the microphone...I clicked
on the red square that means stop... and then
I clicked the arrow button in the middle to play it back to me so I could hear what I just said...

Unbelievable but true, it sounded exactly
like delayed auditory feedback when I
played it back, but the only difference was, I was able to control when I wanted to hear my own voice...

And I felt very confident in hearing that second voice which was mine in the headphones being played back to me...I reccomend anyone to try this experiment...

You must have Sound Recorder on your computer, and a set of headphones, the only thing the sound recorder did not have is a FAF switch...but
I highly reccomend one to try this experiment...

Go to Start on the Task Bar, click on Programs,
click on Accesories, click on Entertainment,
then click on Sound Recorder...

If anyone has used sound recorder before, they know how to use it.....all this experiement is is recording
your own voice, and playing it back a few seconds
later so you can hear it......and talk along with it!!

That's the kind of aid I need!!! Something where
I can record my voice, and then play it back to me a few second later....

Can i ask the benefit of this though? Apart from becoming comfortable with your voice and getting used to what you sound like?

There would be no benefit. If anything it would make your speech worse in those situations. I know most of us have 90-99% fluency by ourselves. If you never had fluent speech before it probably would condition the muscles in your throat for fluent speech.

I don't really like the sound of my voice, my last girlfriend and a few of her friends said I have a beautiful voice. I guess I sound alright.

Most Creative Labs mp3 players have voice recorders with built in microphones. The apple iPods don't have this feature. I've done that before with presentations at school. Even if you play music in one ear it would block your voice out and you can hear other people singing (starting words) making it bit easier.

Default Good to hear others opinions!!!

I like hearing anyone's opinions weather good or bad!!
It's strange how you said we have 90-99%
by ourselves!! I wish that were true with me!!!!

I'm not sure if this is completely right, but
when I speak anytime, I am unable to HEAR what I am saying when I am saying it...

I think hearing one's voice as one's speaks
is very important in knowing how we want to
sound to others...

And as far as playing in music in one ear
so one cannot hear his-her own voice, I would
think of that as a masking efect--if a stutterer
cannot hear his own voice as he -she speaks,
they might be more fluent....

The sound recorder lets me hear myself
and my own voice.. and when I am out and about,
I am unable to hear what I am saying when I speak to others!!!

Sorry - if im confusing anyone--but I have no easy way of explaining this!!

That's strange. You can't hear your own voice when you talk outoud? Even when you speak outloud to youself?

I can hear my own voice.

Honestly I am unable to concentrate on what I am saying as I am saying it....I think I would stutter a little less, if I was better able to hear my voice echoed which i cannot--
